Our Pastor
Kealoha Kaopua has served as the Senior Pastor of Calvary Community Church since 2009, the first assigned pastor since the church was planted in 1979 by its founding pastor, David Rees-Thomas.
From his early teen years in his hometown of Nanakuli on O’ahu, Kealoha Kaopua knew that God had called him to serve the Body of Christ. At the age of 17 he served as an interim pastor with the Door of Faith Church while finishing his senior year at Hilo High School before becoming a volunteer missionary with Youth with a Mission in 1979.
While in full time volunteer missionary service, Kealoha Kaopua and a group of young islanders had the privilege of pioneering Island Breeze Ministries, a ministry dedicated to God’s heart for redeeming cultures through using their God given cultural expressions. Traveling the world with Island Breeze, doors opened for sharing the Gospel through Polynesian song and dance even in nations and settings considered off-limits for traditional missionaries.
Kealoha Kaopua and his wife Taimane along with a group of other like-minded missionaries formed what is now a forprofit company called Island Breeze Productions, utilizing the same expressions of worship and evangelism in a corporate “luau” setting. Today Island Breeze Productions has contracts with several hotels along the Kona Coast and works with large corporations to service their corporate gatherings while in Hawai’i.
In 2003, Kealoha became assistant pastor at Calvary Community Church under Pastor David Reese-Thomas. Kealoha Kaopua and his wife Taimane have two children and have lived in Kailua Kona since 1982.
